“To be a photographer is a great hobby, you can walk and capture interesting moments of your life.”

Adrian Limani (born 1991) is a self-taught photographer from Albania/Kosovo. His conceptual photographic images often involve the use of surreal light.

Artist statement

“Since I was a child I always wanted to do beautiful and peaceful things. And I really loved arts, music, drawings, design, movies – and photography. I first started out with graphic design and later got into photography.

Now I can freely say that I’m really enjoying the work that I’m doing. To be a photographer is a great hobby, you can walk and capture interesting moments of your life. Also by exploring new places you learn new things.”

Interview with Adrian Limani

Adrian, your portfolio shows a great variety. From nature and architecture photography to fine art. What does each genre mean to you and how would you describe yourself as an artist?

“You can create a special moment or make beautiful surreal photo montages that convey a message.”

As you can see on my website I do different types of photography and Fine Art, too. Fine Art is a genre of photography that lets you create your own world or style of photography.

You can really put your imagination and skills into what you want to do. So you can create a special moment or make beautiful surreal photo montages that convey a message. That’s what I like about photography.

What does photography mean to you? And what do you want to transmit with your pictures? And in other words: What is it at all that a photograph can say? Especially keeping in mind the over abundance of photographic imagery in today’s society.

I do photography because I love it. For me photography is a form of art through which people can spread their messages – like a musician or actor for example. Our talent we need to use to do great and good things to inspire other people to do good things as well.

I try to spread messages like love, freedom, peace, knowledge because people always need to have these things in their minds and hearts.

Which photographer has inspired you most?

I have a lot of friends that I follow everyday on their photography sites and they are really inspirational to me. There are a lot of them, but my inspiration cames mostly from music and movies. So if I start to write photographers names, I need to make a long list because there are so many awesome photographers around the world.

What’s your favorite inspirational quote about photography?

“Buying a Nikon doesn’t make you a photographer. It makes you a Nikon owner.”

Unknown author

I really like this one.

How would you describe your photographic voice and way of working? How do you plan and execute a project?

I keep most of my ideas in my mind. Sometimes I write ideas down so I won’t forget them. It happens quite often that you have an idea, but for some reason you can’t realize it at that moment, so it’s good to be able to come back to it at some other time.

What do you consider to be the axis of your work – technically and conceptually?

“Even though you might own the best equipments it’s just not going to work if you don’t know how to use it.”

First of all I’m self-taught and I always try to explore new things.

All equipment has its own role and purpose, but what really matters are your personal abilities and skills. Because even though you might own the best equipments it’s just not going to work if you don’t know how to use it – like my favourite quote says.

What qualities and characteristics does a good photographer need?

I think all photographers have their own style how to make their photographs. So this is what distinguishes one from another. It’s good to develop your own style and find your own unique photographic language.

What does a photo need to be a great photo in your eyes?

Composition and colors.

Where do you draw inspiration from for your photographic projects?

In my mind.

What kind of camera and equipment do you use?

Camera: Nikon D7000. Lenses: Nikkor 18-105mm, Nikkor 50mm 1.8G, Tamron 18-270, Tripod.

What’s your favorite website about photography?

I like 500px, for example.

Which advice would you give someone who wants to become a (professional) photographer?

I think to become a real professional you need to study photography.

Future projects?

To have some personal exhibitions of my work.
